I liked the exercises where we got to create our own images or videos. These were the most interesting to me. This program has affected my lifelong learning goals because I intend to continue researching and staying up to date on what is new in the technology world. I was very surprised that there were online word processing tools that were free and functioned in almost the same manner as other word processing tools that people pay a lot of money for. I did not like how everyone's blogs were displayed to the right of the home screen of this program. This made scrolling down to the "thing" you wanted to complete very tedious. This is a small thing, however, it did not have a large affect on how I feel about the program. What I have learned will influence my practice as a teacher because now I know many ways to encorporate technology in the classroom. Also, I can use my new knowledge base to help my students build a knoweldge base of technology. Researching new developments seems to be effective for me. I like to know about everything that is out there and then form my own decisions on what programs or tools are effective. I will resolve to stay updated on new developments by taking the time to research when I experience down time.

Below, is what I found as an credation that Learning 2.0 23 things was based on another program. I copy and pasted this directly off our 23 things homepage that we use to get to others' blogs and to each individual "thing."

Now that I know about creative commons licensing I will use it to help educate my students on what they may use and what they may not use, and how to give credit to the author. I will also use creative commons to be able to recognize what I can or cannot use and how to give credit to the author.

These live binders could be used to bind all of the students work together and save for upcoming students as a reference of good work and not so good work. As far as lesson plans, the students could do a research folder in livebind. Before writing the formal research paper students could bind all of their resources together in livebind. Another lesson could be for students to get in a group and find resources of multiple types and then bind them all together to share with the class. The topic could be anything from history to the rainforest, to literature or math.

My Animoto Video

 This is a video of some pictures of my boyfriend and I.This was a hard thing to do I thought. It was very time consuming, and was a little difficult to navigate through the website. However, I think this is a wonderful source to make still phtograph videos. I never knew that sites like this existed on the internet for free. I could see myself using this in a class for students to find pictures or draw pictures and scan them about a project subject and they can create their own videos. I could not figure out how to embed the video. With the youtube video in the other THING I just clicked the blogger icon and it embedded it for me. I did the same with this website but, it just linked it to my blog. I tried using the embed code, however, this did not work either. Also, there is no way to save the video to my computer to insert the video as we would a picture.

I liked youtube because it has all the resources for anything you need (almost). If students need to know how to do math, rules for English, set up a title page in Word, youtube has it! I chose this video because it is by Conrad Wolfram, which is a widely recognized math guru! I will be teaching math, so this was the perfect video for me. I think the related videos would be a nice touch to be added to the library. This is because when doing research, students have to search in many different places. A ten page paper can take you 15 hours just to get your content down on paper. From there you have to use appropriate formatting and citing! (I know this from experience). So, if the library used related sources links, it would cut down on researching time for students:)

NINETEEN

Yes, I am a member of Teacher pop, now. Yes, I think Teacher pop is a great way for future teachers and inservice teachers to communicate in a professional setting. I have not yet had the chance to tour the Teacher pop website fully. My request is still being reviewed. -Will update when it gets accepted.
Okay! I got accepted, I chose to add the teacher pop tag to my profile and I added a profile picture of myself.. I tried to add a widget to my blog, but I couldn't figure out how to do it!

Educators should know how social networking works because it is something that their students engage in daily. Also, it is an oppurtunity to incorporate technology into the curriculum. Educators could ask students to post about a subject on their facebook or twitter account. I love facebook. I think it is a great way to keep in touch with friends from all over the word and express how you feel or think to those you wish to share that information with. I don't like twitter as much. I don't really understand it as far as normal people being "followed." I can understand the idea of following a celebrity (if you are into that) or following a news page about a topic you are interested in. However, following everything your friends have to say is a little weird. I guess I like facebook more because you get to see pictures of far away family and such. I think twitter could be useful in a classroom. Educators could provide students with an assignment to summarize what they think about x subject in y amount of characters. This concept is similar to THE JIST; which we commonly used in my secondary schooling location. Facebook could be used in a similar way. When I think of facebook in an educational setting I think of FREEDOM WRITERS. I think facebook would be a good way for students to write in a "journal" manner.

SEVENTEEN

I can see this as a tool for teachers to help students find resources. Professors at APSU link related sources in D2L for us students to use. This could be used in the same manner. It could also be used for personal use because of it's ability to be accessed from anywhere. Teachers could also use this site to share resources with fellow teachers in their grade level, subject area, or whole school. By tagging these items with different tags it gives the researcher a brief idea of what the link contains. Such a resource could even be used state wide for teachers to collaborate their resources.

SiXTEEN

I chose to do the iGoogle homepage. I thought the sample page was cute and all the different applications to use/choose form also attracted me to this. I will not make this my homepage because I would probably never get any school work done again :) The online calendars could be useful for classroom calendars. The students could look online or at a printed copy in the room of the classroom calendar to know when tests, activities, and schedule changes will occur. I do not like the to do lists. I carry a paper planner with me. I like doing one thing on my list and erasing it out of my planner and then adding another thing. Online, it seems that I want to babble on a to do list rather than write what actually needs to get done. I like the calendar tool, as mentioned before. It could be used in the classroom or even at home. For a family with children the parents could add events like "Family Dinner" so that the children know that there is to be no social plans made for that time block. Also, if family vacations are being planned, them being on a calendar for everyone to see would provide everyone with a reminder of when they need to ask off work, or be caught up (or ahead) on school work to be able to take the time off. I would recommend the iGoogle homepage because it is so custom to YOU. Everything that you like to surf on the net is available in one place. However, I think, as said before, that this wonderful application would prevent me from doing as much school work :) I am easily distracted.

FiFTEEN:)

I thought this "thing" was rather interesting. Being able to edit others' thoughts and such was fun. I felt like a little kid, changing mom's font and size on her work newsletter:) I decided to add my post for thing Fourteen because I completed thing fourteen recently and I really enjoyed it. I deleted alot of people's pictures! hehehe:) Wiki's are rather fun. I also deleted alot of random sentences in people's paragraphs so that they do not make sense :) This goes to show why our professors are always telling us that wikipedia is not a valid resource. People can be mischievious and just TRY to delete/change/misprint information! Wiki's would be a good idea for students to collaborate about everything they learned in a course. If once a week every child had to go onto the wiki and add two things they learned that week, it could improve collaboration and assess what the children are retaining and what they are not.

FOURTEEN:)

I chose to explore the Bubbl.us and the Gliffy sites. I really like the Bubbl.us because it's great for getting ideas together for any event. Things I could use this for personally are: to do list, party organizer, organizer for family events, and organizing events to talk about at work. Educationally, Bubbl could be used for children to interact with technology while creating an organizer for: an essay, a group project, and ideas for school events. I think the students would really enjoy interacting with this website instead of drawing a circle on paper and writing in it. I also liked the Gliffy site. I really liked this site because of the floor plan application! This is amazing for personal use! Also, it would be a great application for upcoming teachers to organize how they would like to have their classroom. Students could collaborate with one another to express how they would like the classroom to be set up as well. The floorplan application on Gliffy is definitely my favorite part of thing fourteen:)

THiRTEEN

I think the Zoho writer tool is amazing! It is almost an exact replica of Microsoft Office word. People pay tons of money every year on new Microsoft Software for the up and coming desktop, laptop, ipad, and tablets. Yet, here is this online (accessible from anywhere with internet), FREE, tool! I am amazed that something like this exists.

I like the google documents drawing app. Students could use the scribble tool to draw out math problems for each other. Tutoring sessions could be online rather than in home. Also, the documents, presentations, etc could be used for group projects. The inconvience of staying after school or making another trip to school would no longer exist. Google Docs makes it easy to share and collaborate! I personally liked Google Docs better. This had more apps then the Zoho. Zoho did not have presentations, forms, or spreadsheets. They did have the writer though. The calendar and lists are not all that helpful for me because I carry a planner for myself. But, if I was already teaching in a school I guess it would be helpful to post meetings and share materials etc. Altogether, I love these online, free applications, and I am STILL amazed that they exist... being free!

Thing 12

I love the calendar option on google! How neat. I didn't put any personal stuff on it, however, I put a little bit of stuff on it. My thursdays are crazy. I think I will definitely make my own calendars from now on to keep track of my dates and appoinments. View my calendar here. I also enjoyed iGoogle. It gives you weather, and a lot of examples of your interests. For example, I chose that I am interested in cooking, so on my iGoogle page I have a "Recipe of the Day" section. I also chose that I am interested in games. Therefore, I also have a games box on my iGoogle page. You can add gadgets to your iGoogle page as well. It's like having all of the things you frequently look at, all in one place. It's pretty awesome and I plan to use it more often.

Thing 11

I thought searching for feeds through the google search was easiest, however, I like searching for the feeds by just browsing because it gives me more of a wide variety of things to subscribe too. I thought the topix.net was a little harder to navigate through. I found a variety of useful feeds during my exploration. I found educational feeds related to middle school math, which I will be teaching. I subscribed to nctm.org.  On the other hand, I also found some good parenting feeds for good ideas for daily ideas for your children to learn while playing and feeds that keep you up to date on new parenting techniques. I just googled a subject area and then news feed to find a news feed that I was interested in.

Thing 10

I had a hard time finding out how to subscribe to different things at first. However, quickly I found that there is a subcribe search bar at the top left of the screen where you search for things. I subscribed to two different cites for math applications that can be used in the classroom, Pioneer woman :), Cool Cat Teacher, and a cite for women's health and beauty! I like RSS because I can put all of my favorite things to read in one place. This is a great way to organize resources to use in the classroom and stay up to date on new teaching strategies. Teachers could all subscribe to websites that correlate to the material they teach. Staying up to date on new teaching strategies, classroom management strategies, and strategies to modify your lessons towards different learning strategies can continually improve a teacher's efficacy.

Thing 9

I chose a magazine cover, an overlying effect and a border! I used two different photos. I took the first photo of some trees near my house. The second photo is a picture of my dog on a sunny day. This experience of manipulating pictures was much easier than just uploading one from flickr! I think these would be useful to take picutures of your students and put a crayon border around it as a class photo kept in class or to help them explore technology. For personal uses, I could use these different programs to help make my pictures look more creative! I scrap book as a hobby so this activity was very interesting for me!

Thing 8

I hope this one is easier than 7!

Phewwww! That was easy! I orginally tried some different ones and they didn't work. This one was rather easy. This is a picture of a home lit up like a ginger bread house. I took this picture while me and my boyfriend were driving around looking at Christmas lights one night. I think the puzzles would be very cool to have printed out in the classroom. In pieces, the students would never know that it was a picture of them, the classroom, a favorite class book, etc. This program is a really neat idea! I feel okay about sharing pictures online. However, I have to make sure they are not offensive to anyone before I upload them.

Thing 7

My flickr experience was a nightmare! I tried adding a picture to this post I bet one hundred times. I enjoyed looking through flickr. But, when it came to adding a picture I could not figure it out! Hopefully I can get some help on this and add the picture that I want. (I didn't get the one i wanted, but this one is cool too!) I finally got this to work on photobucket. I couldn't get it to work with flickr. I kept getting an error message that blogger could not find my picture. 

Thing 6

I explored Dropbox! It is a website (dropbox) that allows you to store your personal things on the internet! It is great for storing pictures, term papers, or emails that you need to get to. Since Dropbox is a part of the internet you can access it from anywhere with internet (and who doesn't have internet these days?). Another cool feature/tool about Dropbox is that you can share your folders with other dropbox users. So if you have 72 new pictures of your baby you can send them all to Grandma Lou so she can decide which ones she would like to print! If you invite someone to join dropbox you get more free storage space. Also, when you invite someone to join they recieve free storage space! When first signing up for dropbox there are seven steps to complete and you will recieve 250 mb of free storage. Basically Dropbox helps you to share, file, and store your memories, papers, or reminders. It is an easily accessable feature to help keep your life organized.

Thing 5

The idea of building on top of what is already on the web is a great idea. As many authors mentioned in their articles Web 2.0 is not re-doing the Internet. It is simply building and advancing. I think this is a great idea. As we watched in the "clicker" you tube video, technology can enable us to teach students better. In turn, students would learn better. School 2.0 means that schools are going to move further into technology. This is already the case. "Overheads and transparencies" are a thing of the past. Now we have smart board and markers that write digitally. Personally, I find it inspirational. I think about the chalk boards in my elementary classrooms and then Smart Boards at Austin Peay and wonder what new technology will they come up with next? School 2.0 means that as a future educator I am going to have the privilege of helping students to understand and use technology efficiently. Also, it may make my job a lot easier! I think classrooms in the future will be taught electronically. One teacher may teach five classes at once. However, with devices like the computer and clicker the instructor will be able to receive feedback from all of his students. Virtual school will become more popular in the future. Writing with pencils and pens on homework will eventually become obsolete. Students will have something like an Ipad where they can download homework and write on the work sheet with a digital pen. When the students are done with their homework they will be able to submit it to a drop box that will appear on the instructors computer/Ipad. Chalk boards are a thing of the past, dry erase boards are walking into the past, soon instructing and learning in the classroom will consist of a large use of technology.
